Apology to Bisexual Community

In raising multiple personal perspectives during Bisexual Awareness Week, we published many items — one which was a blog called “Bye Bye Bi, Hello Queer.” It was one of the blogs published on Bisexual Awareness Day. Having listened to a wide array of feedback on the timing and content, we recognize that this blog offended people. For this we sincerely apologize. It has been removed. Our commitment as we move forward with our partners in the bisexual community is to continue to raise awareness of the realities and history of the bisexual community and bisexual people’s lives.

Thank you! Any other day the perspective would have been okay, especially if balanced with one that embraced the term bisexual as inclusive and non-binary. Thanks for understanding that publishing it on our day, in particular, without counterbalance, was counterproductive.

Oh…and thank you for adding us to your name as well.

Thank you for taking the time to apologize. It would be really awesome if you could use your pedestal in the LGBTQ+ community to point out the specifics of why the article was so inappropriate. What do you think? It would be so tremendously beneficial to the Bi community and its allies.

I appreciate the apology, but, since I didn’t see the blog in question I probably don’t entirely have one coming. I try to pretend that I’m not usually that easily offended, too.

As a bisexual, but also as an academic: I’m sorry that you felt compelled to remove the blog entry, because of its content. It’s possible it was wildly offensive, as you say; but no idea is so dangerously wrong, that it cannot be talked about — at a minimum, because hiding the idea does not cast it into non-existence, and a well-informed person should be able to recognize and criticize that idea where it should appear. It does bisexuals no favors to take highly unpopular opinions — of which there are many — about who we are, and simply cover them up.
