Getting out the pro-equality vote in Traverse City, Mich.

November 7, 2011

The Task Force's Cliffie Bailey going door-to-door in Traverse City, Mich. to get out the vote.

The Task Force is working alongside Traverse City Equality to get out the vote on Election Day, and urging voters to choose “Yes” on Proposal 1. Proposal 1 asks whether Traverse City’s LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance, which prohibits discrimination in housing, public accommodation and employment, should remain in effect. The ordinance has been in place for a year and simply protects LGBT people with regards to housing and employment in the same way that it already protects people from discrimination based on their race, sex, religion and many other attributes. We’ve knocked on hundreds of doors and have made hundreds of phone calls to speak with voters on this vital issue. The opposition has really ramped up its presence, attempting to confuse voters and our efforts to get out the vote are becoming more and more important.

More than 18 cities in Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit and Saginaw, have nondiscrimination laws that protect LGBT people.
