White House blog highlights housing protections for LGBT people, cites National Transgender Discrimination Survey

October 13, 2011

Today, an excellent post appeared on the White House blog highlighting the steps the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has taken during the Obama Administration to ensure fair and equal housing opportunities for LGBT people.

In the post, the Task Force’s and National Center for Transgender Equality’s National Transgender Discrimination Survey is cited. The White House blog post lists a number of positive steps HUD has taken for LGBT people since 2009. This is yet another example of a great step forward for LGBT rights, and we are excited that the Obama administration is publicizing these policies. Head over to the Office of Public Engagement blog and give it a read!

Also in housing news, Senator Kerry (D-MA) and Rep. Nadler (D-NY) recently introduced the Housing Opportunities Made Equal Act, or HOME Act, that would ban discrimination against LGBT people in housing and lending. The Task Force is encouraging members of Congress to co-sponsor this important bill.
