Washington state issues first marriage licenses to same-sex couples
What a way to start the day! Early this morning, beginning at 12:01 a.m., same-sex couples were able to obtain marriage licenses in King County, Wash. Yesterday, Gov. Chris Gregoire signed the state’s marriage equality law as the Nov. 6 election results were certified. The state has a three-day waiting period, however, meaning the soonest that couples can begin marrying is Sunday.

Pete-e Peterson stated, “We waited a long time. We’ve been together 35 years, never thinking we’d get a legal marriage. Now I feel so joyous I can’t hardly stand it.” Petersen, 85 and her partner, 77-year-old Jane Abbott Lighty, were the first to get a license.
By 6 a.m., 279 licenses had been issued in King County. We wish the soon-to-be-newlyweds great happiness in their journeys together as married couples.

Congrats, to all of you I cannot wait until we are legalized here in Columbus, ohio then my partner and myself can do the same . We have been together 15 yrs and counting
This is such a great, historic time for our country. If everybody keeps fighting, this may just be the beginning of equality throughout the nation! Families should never face discrimination, and this is the beginning of the end. Good job Washington!
