All eyes on the Supreme Court, but don’t let Congress off the hook with DOMA!

September 25, 2012

The Supreme Court is expected to announce soon whether it will hear a number of cases challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), California’s Proposition 8 and Arizona’s law that stripped state employees who are lesbian, gay and bisexual of domestic partner benefits. (No such news emerged from the high court today. Get more details here, here and here.)

Don’t let Congress off the hook with DOMA!

While we await news from the Supreme Court in the following days, we continue to press Congress to repeal DOMA by passing the Respect for Marriage Act.

Please take a quick moment right now to urge lawmakers to pass this critical legislation. Do it here and do it now. Thanks!

It is an outrage that the basic rights of U.S. citizens are being violated due to the intolerance of others. Marriage preference among adults is a private, personal decision, and should be respected. The job of the government is to protect our basic human rights, not violate them. Let’s defend marriage – FOR EVERYONE – and repeal all discriminatory laws! This is the United States of America, not Iran.
