Live from Netroots Nation in Providence, R.I.

June 7, 2012

The Task Force is participating in the Netroots Nation conference in Providence, R.I. this week, one of the most powerful political events of the year. We’ll be bringing you updates throughout the conference, and there are many amazing trainings and panels that will take place over the next few days, including panels featuring Task Force staff and board members.

If you’re here in Providence, we hope you’ll join us today to see board member and the Executive Director of Choice USA Kierra Johnson participate on the panel: “Liberate Your Ass: Why Sexual Freedom is Key to Fighting the Right.” Thursday, June 7, 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm in Ballroom D. If you want to follow along at home, you can watch a livestream of the panel here: http://www.livestream.com/freespeechtv

On Saturday, June 9, from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm in Ballroom A we’ll be having a discussion on how to advocate for progress through federal agencies using the existing framework of federal law. Our panel “Winning Without a Vote: Working with Federal Agencies to Advance a Progressive Agenda” will share success stories related to the LGBT movement, but the tools for change can be used by anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and wade into the world of federal regulation. The panel features Brad Jacklin, Task Force Project Director, Kellan Baker, Health Policy Analyst at the Center for American Progress, Emily Hecht-McGowan, Director of Public Policy for Family Equality Council, Gautam Raghavan, White House liaison to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, and Maya Rupert, Federal Policy Director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights. You’ll be able to see a livestream of the panel here: http://www.livestream.com/fstv1

We’ll also be exhibiting at the conference, so stop by our booth #729 in the exhibit hall just across from the caucus area. You’ll be able to get our reports, t-shirts, and Queer the Vote stickers.

You can also follow the action on Twitter by following the Task Force and with the hashtags #nn12 and #nn12lgbt.
