Lifting voices of faith
Faith leaders from across the country were engaged and energized by their coming together at Practice Spirit, Do Justice, which was held concurrently with the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change in Minneapolis, Feb. 2-6.
It opened with a plenary in which the coordinators of the conference, the Rev. Rebecca Voelkel, Sung Park and Lisa Weiner-Mahfuz, explained its vision: to build a movement, communities and a world that does justice to all of us.
Faith also took a key place at the opening plenary of Creating Change with a panel of prominent faith leaders to discuss the importance of bridging the gap between secular and faith communities to achieve full equality and justice.
The Rev. Rebecca Voelkel, the Task Force faith work director, moderated that Creating Change plenary panel, which included Faisal Alam, Bishop Yvette Flunder, Rabbi Joshua Lesser and the Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson. Watch the panel discussion here:
Participants also gathered at a vigil to remember the life and work of Ugandan LGBT rights advocate David Kato, who was murdered recently. Practice Spirit, Do Justice closed with a multi-faith worship service.
