Take Action: Maryland lawmakers need to hear from marriage equality supporters now!

February 8, 2011

This week is a critical one in Maryland. Today, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee will hear testimony on the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (SB 116) — Maryland’s bill to achieve marriage equality for same-sex couples. If you live in Maryland, we need to make sure that your state senator knows that you believe all couples who are in loving and committed relationships deserve equal treatment.

Your senator needs to hear from you TODAY!

Take a moment today and place a call. You can find your senator’s office number by clicking here.

*SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE: My name is ___. I live in District ___ . I am calling to urge you to support the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act. Everyone deserves to be able to protect the people they love—and an important way to do that is through marriage. Please, end the exclusion of loving and committed couples by supporting Senate Bill #116.

You can also CLICK HERE to send an e-mail to your senator voicing your support marriage equality, and asking them to do the same!

Marriage is more than a collection of legal rights; it tells the community that two people are committed to each other and are a family.  We have the momentum to make marriage a reality for thousands of couples across our state, but we are counting on you to stand with us by making your voice heard TODAY.

Equality Maryland will be live-tweeting today’s hearing, and you can also follow the hashtag #marryland for updates on Twitter.
