What We’re Reading: NYC Pride Edition!
June 28, 2010
The biggest weekend of Pride season has come and gone! With Pride celebrations this weekend in cities from New York City to San Francisco, we had a lot of Pride-related news to read this morning:
- The New York Times has a photo essay of New York Pride in all its glory.
- Saint Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in New York marched in this year’s parade — like they have for years — with one big difference. They carried a blank banner in deference to New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan’s order that they keep their name out of the spotlight. Members of the marching delegation did, however, still wear T-shirts with their church’s name on them:
- One veteran of the 1969 riots at the Stonewall Inn sat out this year’s parade. Storme DeLarverie, 89, who was a bouncer and drag performer in the 1960s and 1970s reflected on her history of activism with a reporter from the New York Times.
